jon levenson

The only California-born kid in a family of New Yorkers, Jon Levenson is a wildly inventive writer and director whose work mines the intersection of tragicomedy and queer storytelling. Most recently, Levenson wrote and is co-directing Gloria, The Musical — a queer, camp-horror stop-motion reimagining of The Phantom of the Opera set to Laura Branigan's catalog — with rights already secured. Levenson is also attached to write the television adaptation of Boston Teran's novel Two Boys at Breakwater for High Top Productions. His debut short film, Someone Will Assist You Shortly, took home Best Short Narrative Film at the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival.

Rooted in theatre, Levenson honed his craft on some of the most storied stages in the country, originating work in the Broadway production of Larry Kramer's The Normal Heart and starring in the 40th Anniversary production of Mart Crowley's The Boys in the Band — working alongside Ellen Barkin, Joe Mantello, Lee Pace, Jim Parsons, and Michael Imperioli. Levenson holds M.F.A. degrees in both Screenwriting from UC Riverside and Acting from UT Knoxville, and recently completed the Behind the Bangs Fellowship with Emmy-nominated writer Chelsea Devantez. He is a proud SAG-AFTRA member.
